Colo d entro de uma garrafa.

É um vinho docemente cremoso e suave, em harmonia com a sensação de acidez, um vinho de conforto para beber comigo.

Hoje, Wehlener Sonenuhr, 2009 Riesling Spätlese é o vinho certo para o meu estado de espírito. Sente-se um ligeiro borbulhar que promove carinho.

É uma orquídea branca, lima, favo de mel, pedra molhada, querosene quando o nosso nariz repousa sobre o copo.

É a mesma flor, geleia, maçã verde, pêssego, mel, sal, petróleo, gengibre num único gole, onde fica o sabor, pedindo os próximos goles do colheita tardia.

Colheita tardia?

Um colheita tardia é um vinho produzido com uvas "esquecidas" na videira. Durante esse tempo, Botrytis Cinerea , o único fungo considerado benéfico no vinho, ataca as uvas, perfurando levemente a pele, causando a podridão nobre. Os poros deixam escapar a água e os bagos murcham, desidratando e aumentando a concentração de sabores, açúcar e acidez.

Nas minhas diversas pesquisas vinícolas, descobri o que se pensa acerca da origem deste vinho. Conta a lenda que o nobre de um palácio francês ordenou que não se realizasse a vindima até este regressar de uma viagem. Aquando do seu regresso, as uvas tinham sido atingidas por este estado de podridão. Apesar do seu mau aspeto, o homem ordenou que as uvas fossem vindimada. O vinho ficou tão requintado e apaladado que, a partir daí, passou a colher as uvas somente nessa condição. Em contrapartida, produz-se muito menos vinho, uma vez que as uvas ficam desidratadas (o que potencia o seu sabor).

O defeito deste vinho alemão é a garrafa terminar demasiado depressa. É preciso providenciar a próxima!

Well, here it is!

Comfort inside a bottle.

It is a sweetly creamy and smooth wine, in harmony with the sensation of acidity—a comforting wine to drink with myself.

Today, Wehlener Sonenuhr, 2009 Riesling Spätlese is the right wine for my state of mind. There is a slight fizz that inspires tenderness.

It is white orchid, lime, honeycomb, wet stone and kerosene when our nose rests over the glass.

It is the same flower, jam, green apple, peach, honey, salt, petrol and ginger in a single sip, where the flavour lingers, asking for the next sips of the late-harvest wine.

Late harvest?

A late-harvest wine is made from grapes “forgotten” on the vine. During this time, Botrytis Cinerea, the only fungus considered beneficial in wine, attacks the grapes, lightly piercing the skin and causing noble rot. The pores let the water escape and the berries shrivel, dehydrating and increasing the concentration of flavours, sugar and acidity.

In my various wine-related researches, I discovered what is thought to be the origin of this wine. Legend has it that a nobleman from a French palace ordered that the harvest not take place until he returned from a journey. When he came back, the grapes had been affected by this state of rot. Despite their unappealing appearance, the man ordered the grapes to be harvested. The wine turned out to be so refined and flavoursome that, from then on, he harvested the grapes only in that condition. The downside is that much less wine is produced, since the grapes become dehydrated—which intensifies their flavour.

The flaw in this German wine is that the bottle disappears far too quickly. I need to make sure the next one is ready!
