A casta vínica ouro-rosa

Hoje, vou à Alemanha num copo de vinho de tonalidade ouro-rosa.

O seu nome é praticamente um trava-línguas, Gewürztraminer.

No entanto, não é a sua característica mais fulgurante. O seu aroma é tão característico como controverso, ou se adora ou se detesta. E é impossível passar pelo perfume de um copo sem reagir.

Na Garagem da minha amiga Ivone, fui servida e logo ali, com toda a sua intensa carga aromática, o 2018 Villa Wolf, Gewürztramine r disse-me olá.

Gewürztraminer induz uvas alemãs. Todavia, uns afirmam que a casta é italiana, outros, que veio da Alsácia, em França, independente da origem do nome. Enfim, falo de um vinho produzido na Alemanha e de umas uvas viçosas, com um nome estranho para tais origens. Para situar, a região de Pfalz, onde está a Villa Wolf, esta vinha , localiza-se no vale do rio Reno, no sudoeste da Alemanha, a norte da região francesa da Alsácia.

Gengibre, canela, lichia, pétala de rosas, laranja e muita pimenta rosa, picante são os seus atributos na boca. Todos presentes, todos vivos, todos muito identificáveis.

Ao contrario da maioria dos vinhos que aqui retrato, este prescrevo para acompanhamento gastronómico.

Embora seja refrescante bebê-lo sozinho, obtive uma harmonização perfeita com um queijo curado e picante, o Grana Padano, que contém cristais de queijo, e é granuloso, esfacelado e cheio de sabor.

Proximamente, vou prová-lo com um prato picante que ainda estou a ponderar se será da gastronomia asiática ou da gastronomia mexicana. As características engraçadas deste vinho, uma vez que penso neste vinho como engraçado, fazem-me querer saboreá-lo na minha invasão a novas cozinhas e sabores.

Também me capta a atenção a tampa de rosca que este vinho apresenta, designada por screw cap. Tem a vantagem de ser inócua (não contamina irreversivelmente o vinho que protege com tricloroanisol, o famoso defeito TCA) , é fácil de abrir e de fechar e obstrói totalmente a entrada de ar na garrafa .

Mas nada de ilusões! É impossível de se comparar à nossa maravilhosa rolha de cortiça, sinónimo de grande qualidade e excelência do vinho... deixarei este tema para outros dias.

Nesta screw cap está gravado o símbolo alemão de garantia de excelente qualidade vínica, uma forma fácil de adquirir perfeitos vinhos alemães.

Tal como ouro-rosa, este vinho tem facetas que pretendo descobrir.

Today, I’m travelling to Germany in a glass of rose-gold wine.

Its name is practically a tongue-twister: Gewürztraminer.

And yet, that is not its most striking feature. Its aroma is as distinctive as it is controversial: you either love it or hate it. It is impossible to pass by the perfume of a glass without reacting.

At my friend Ivone’s Garagem, I was served the 2018 Villa Wolf, Gewürztraminer, and right there, with all its intense aromatic character, it said hello to me.

Gewürztraminer brings German grapes to mind. However, some claim that the grape variety is Italian, while others say it came from Alsácia, in France, regardless of the origin of its name. In any case, I am talking about a wine produced in Germany and some vigorous grapes with a strange name for such origins. To put it in context, the Pfalz region, where Villa Wolf is located, lies in the valley of the Rhine, in southwestern Germany, north of the French region of Alsácia.

Ginger, cinnamon, lychee, rose petal, orange and plenty of spicy pink pepper are its attributes on the palate. All present, all lively, all immediately recognisable.

Unlike most of the wines I write about here, I prescribe this one as a companion to food.

Although it is refreshing to drink on its own, I found a perfect pairing with a sharp, spicy cured cheese: Grana Padano, with its cheese crystals, grainy, crumbly and full of flavour.

Soon, I will try it with a spicy dish. I am still weighing up whether it will come from Asian cuisine or Mexican cuisine. The amusing characteristics of this wine—which I do think of as amusing—make me want to savour it as I venture into new cuisines and flavours.

I am also intrigued by the screw cap this wine comes with, known as a screw cap. It has the advantage of being harmless—it does not irreversibly taint the wine it protects with trichloroanisole, the famous TCA fault—is easy to open and close, and completely seals the bottle from air.

But let’s not delude ourselves! It is impossible to compare it with our wonderful cork, synonymous with great quality and excellence in wine... I’ll leave that subject for another day.

Engraved on this screw cap is the German symbol guaranteeing excellent wine quality, an easy way to acquire perfect German wines.

Like rose gold, this wine has facets I intend to discover.
